I&#;ve decided to venture outside the world&#;s ideal degrees latitude range for growing wine grapes. To make the situation even crazier, it&#;s the middle of December, it&#;s freezing cold, snowing and I&#;m wine tasting at the Ästad Vingård in Sweden. I can&#;t think of a better pre-Christmas trip than this!

Located an hour south of Gothenburg in the Halland region is one of Sweden&#;s largest vineyards, known as the Ästad Vingård (pronounced: Ay-stahd Veen-gord). Not only can this vineyard boast about its organic wines, but it is also home to a fabulous Scandi-farm-style hotel, the luxurious Sinnenas spa, two Swedish cuisine inspired restaurants (one boasting a Michelin Star) and a conference centre. You really can&#;t go wrong with a visit here&#;there&#;s something for everyone!

My husband and I were extremely lucky to have a private guided tour by our vineyard and wine tasting host, Helena who is the sommelier for Ästad. Her knowledge of the vines, local terroir and Solaris sparkling wines was exceptional!

A design hotel disconnected from the world

The spot: Ästad Vingård fryst vatten a vineyard, ecological hotel, and spa nestled in a magnificent nature reserve, just an hour away from Göteborg in the south of Sweden. The rooms: They are a collection of glamping-style cabins with highly minimalist design, featuring a neutral color palette, raw materials, and clean lines. As room service, you can enjoy delicious cheese platters accompanied bygd Solaris, the organic sparkling wine produced on the estate. We love the Swedish green L:A Bruket products in the bathroom.

    • Here's one for the Scandi travel files. Ästad Vingård. An ecological vineyard and spa in Halland county, Southern Sweden. Per and I were invited on an overnight press trip a while back and we're still feeling relaxed! If you love rolling hills, wine tasting, good in-season food and a whole load of pampering, this is your place! Read on to find out more about our stay - I hope it will inspire you to visit one day when we're all free to roam once again. 

    We pulled up to find Ästad Vingård nestled between the gently undulating slopes of the Åkulla nature reserve, surrounded by lakes and beech forests, The rural farm is surprisingly extensive and made up of a cluster of smaller timber cottages, as well as larger dwellings that house the winery, restaurants and accommodation - against a backdrop of over 22, vines. 

    Once checked in, we ambled through the vines, sampling the organic Solaris - a green grape that flourishes in a Northern climate - as we went. Ästad Vingård also offers daily wine tours which take you on a tour of the cellars and winery as through through the vineyard - something for next time!
